FiberFusion: time to think "Outside the Box"

We are happy to be hosting FiberFusion from Sept. 2 – 30, 2011. This collaborative international mural project is created and directed by Multi-Medium White Rock Artist Alicia M B Ballard who is also the key organizer of the Colectivo Virtuosi Infraganti Collective.

The collaboration for this mural demonstrates the global connections made possible by optic fibers through the Internet, which enable artists to connect the threads of their shared passions, interests, values and beliefs. Each contributing Visual Artist offers his or her unique style and technique to an integrated artistic expression of this spiral shaped background design, an ancient symbol of evolution. The White Rock Museum & Archives is the first stop of many for this piece, which will visit some of its contributor’s home countries, such as the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Spain. It is estimated to arrive at its final destination in Italy, in late 2013.

Local Studio Artists are invited to join the project by submitting their website for selection to: Info@VirtuosiInfraganti.org. There are - at present - four spots available.

To learn more, visit the website: http://virtuosiinfraganti.org.

FiberFusion is part of the Outside the Box Festival, a celebration of Art in Fibre and textiles event.

This festival begins on September 1 and, continues until October 21, 2011. It highlights Fascinating, Fabulous Fibre from Fine Art to Funky, to Functional, through Exhibitions, Displays, Demonstrations, Yarn Bombing and more…

White Rock's First Fire Truck Arrives

It was a tight squeeze but the original White Rock Fire Truck has arrived at the White Rock Museum & Archives without a scratch!

The 1925 Studebaker fire truck has been fully restored by White Rock firefighter, Scott Booth, his father Ray and 'Mac' McIlwain who was the first Fire Chief of White Rock, together with a crew from the Teamsters Freight and Transportation Museum.

Pictured at the wheel of the fire truck is Scott Booth inching his way into the Museum.
